The Midnight Sun is the phenomenon that occurs in and around the Arctic Circle and the Antarctic Circle where the sun is still visible at midnight because of the tilt of the earth. The closer to the poles, the more sunlight there is.
This means that a quarter of Finland has 60 days of sun without setting, while Svalbard in Norway has no sunset from the 19th of April to 23rd of August! That's more than four months! Seems unfathomable to all of us Down Under.

This 12-day tour includes a Hurtigruten voyage along the picturesque coast of Norway that showcases the very best Scandinavia has to offer in the luminous summer months. The tour begins in the southern Finnish capital, Helsinki, before boarding the train to Rovaniemi in the heart of Lapland. From there, travel north until arriving in Honningsvag, the nearest point to the North Cape at 71° 10’ 21” N, only 2,000 kilometres from the Geographical North Pole, and witness the midnight sun.

Then marvel at Norway’s picturesque fjords on a five-night cruise from Kirkenes, south to Bergen. As you cross the Arctic Circle at 66°33’N you will celebrate with an important ‘rite of passage’. This involves a spoonful of cod liver oil.
