Dear Valued Clients
Earlier this month we had the pleasure of attending a local networking event; a great way to meet new people and share ideas with other small business owners in the community. It was a terrific event, but one particular interaction left us feeling somewhat deflated (perhaps more frustrated) and inspired this email. Here's how the conversation went:
- Businessman: You’re a travel agent?
- Me: Yes, that’s correct! I own MG Genesys Email Marketing here in town.
- Businessman: Oh I've actually just booked a Canadian family holiday.
- Me: Oh? Where did you book it?
- Businessman: I did it myself on {WEBSITE} it's much cheaper.
- Me: Oh (heard THAT line before) did you compare their pricing with other providers?
- Businessman: Well no, but they "offer the lot at massively reduced prices"
- Me: I see (a sucker)... Can you show me the holiday you booked?
- Businessman: [Searches on phone] Yes here it is.
- Me: [Takes details and punches into own phone] This one?
- Businessman: Yes, that's the one.
- Me: That's interesting, I can offer you the same price.
- Businessman: [Goes defensive] Oh. So you can't actually BEAT that offer?
- Me: Well actually, we can. Our offer includes an upgrade to the Fairmont Hotel.
- Businessman: Oh. [Embarrassed] Well maybe next time then.
- Me: Of course. By the way did you take out travel insurance?
- Businessman: I've got insurance on my credit card.
- Me: Do your children have insurance on their credit cards?
- Businessman: [Look of horror as the penny begins to drop]
- Me: Here's my business card, I'm going to the bar.
